Effect of temperature and pH on hydrolysis of polylactide fiber (PLA) during processing and use of PLA is presented. The appropriate processing and care conditions of PLA fiber are proposed. The effect of molecular and fiber structures of PLA on the hydrolysis is discussed using the molecular modeling software Materials Studio from Accelrys. The molecular and fiber structures that may improve the resistance of PLA to hydrolysis are recommended based on the thermodynamic study of the molecular and fiber structures of PLA.
