Structural response of an ageing elastic material: Bending

We discuss the mechanical response of a material whose modulii change with time due to degradation. Recently, Rajagopal and Wineman (Int. J. Non-linear Mechanics, in press) have shown that the response of such materials is distinctly different from that of classical viscoelastic materials. In this work, we choose a physically reasonable ageing behavior and show that such materials show unusual structural response when subjected to pure bending.
