On two proposed theories of heat conduction

Larry Payne, Cornell University, Cornell University, Department of Mathematics, Ithaca, NY 14850

Several models have been proposed for describing the flow of heat at low temperatures, one being the so-called Generalized Maxwell - Cattaneo system, and a second being one in which the temperature satisfies a third order partial differential equation. This talk will survey work that has been done recently on these two theories of heat conduction.
